Happy New Year!

A very Happy New Year to all of our amazing members and friends of the club! Over the past few years, we have been faced with challenging times, and we are so thankful your support. Gold Key with its Junior and Adult programming has been a safe and happy place where you’ve been able to put the insanity of the world aside and relax, recreate and enjoy yourself. As we look to the new year, we understand that times may be difficult, but we never want you to forget about your health and wellbeing. To that end, we will continue provide fantastic programming and activity, all while being one of the best values in the entire valley! Together, we will remain strong and healthy and make this a great year to remember!

Beer Club Bash

We have a fun event planned for Saturday, January 28th starting at 12pm. We are calling it the Beer Club Bash and it will feature beer samplings and so much more. We will be firing up the grill and cooking hotdogs, a Tennis Beer Pong challenge, an introduction to Touch Tennis, and a Proshop Merchandise Blowout! Entry fee for the event is $10 for members, $5 for Craft Beer Club members, and $15 for non members. Please sign up in advance!

Babolat is Out and Tecnifibre is In

The club has enjoyed a long 10 year relationship with being a specialized prohop for Babolat, but things are changing. Effective February, we will become an official Tecnifibre facility. Babolat racquets and accessories are still great products and we will continue to support them, but all future sales will be with Tecnifibre. The reason for the change is that Tecnifibre has recognized the success our of Junior academy and Adult programs and has offered to become a strong partner in the development of our tennis program. Keep an eye out for some new amazing products arriving soon! In the meantime, there will be a blowout of all Babolat products at the Jan 28th Beer Club Bash! You won’t to miss this sale!

Club Championships Return

We are bringing back the Club Championships to determine who the best of the best is at the club. There will be a Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. Each event will take place throughout the year with the first being Men’s and Women’s Doubles in February. There will be an Open and Intermediate divsions, so you might want to start scouting out a partner!

Pro Cady Maharaj Joins the Junior Program!

We are thrilled to announce the addition of Cady Maharaj to the Junior Program! Cady is a USPTA certified coaching professional with 16 years experience coaching beginner-collegiate level players. She played D1 at Utah State University and holds a Masters in Elementary Education from GCU. Cady is a full time K-12 Physical Education Specialist. She is passionate about developing kids’ physical literacy and creates a positive and engaging environment on the court.  Cady’s focus with the program will be to oversee and grow the early development program with junior academy. Along those lines, she will be starting classes for kids 3-6 years old on Sundays Starting Jan 29th!

Junior Tennis Academy Update

The first session of the new season for the junior tennis program starts week of January 2nd. Each session runs for 4 weeks, but late starts are always welcomed.  Please remember that missed classes do not carry forward to the next session, but can be made up on alternate days in similar classes. For more information and options, please check with your specific instructor. If you have any questions on the program or where your junior fits in, please contact Director Luis Ridaura at luis@goldkeyracquetclub.com.

New Thursday Mixed Doubles

The format for the Thursday nights mixed doubles is changing for the month of December, and we are implementing a new system for signing up. In the past, it has been very challenging for the organizers to get players to commit and show up on a consistent basis. To make things easier, we are changing the process over to a similar format that is used to sign up for adult clinics. Starting in December, members can sign up for Mixed Up Doubles Play which will begin every Thursday at 7pm. We will start out with 2 courts, or 8 players, and we will also utilize the wait list. Please note that there is no instruction and this a member only free event. If it goes well, we will look into expanding to more courts. Remember, to sign up you must do so online under “Clinics” on the member portal.

Adult Clinic Changes

There are a couple clinic changes for February. The 8pm Monday Beginner clinic has been updated to an Intermediate Live Ball Clinic. A new Intermediate Live Ball Clinic has also been added to Friday at 7pm. As always, confirm days and times on the website when booking.

Ski Trip to Flagstaff

We are working on setting up a ski trip to Az Snowbowl in Flagstaff in the month of February. It will most likely be a midweek trip and involve an overnight stay. There is a sign up sheet in the proshop to see how many people are interested. Once we have some numbers, we will work on setting up a date.
